Where am I.......
Where am I.......
Summer is just around the corner .
Easter has been and gone, Spring has definitely sprung and the Summer season is just around the corner. I, for one, cannot wait. I love the Summer month's. The bluer seas and hotter beaches, the warm evenings, dining al fresco, the carnival's.
We have received a lot of requests for clues to the April "Where am I" competition which was possibly "a bit too difficult", so this month we have decided to be nice and give you a relatively easy location. Our monthly competition can be found at the foot of the newsletter. We also have a new competition and you could win £5000 cash or a holiday.
Do you have your own website? Do you pay annual hosting and update fees? Are you being taken for an expensive ride?
Well in this month's issue we have a new feature on internet providers and the cost of running a website.
We also have a Cornish seafood recipe for you to try out and we review a new breakfast book that was launched recently.

BREAKFAST’ BY HUGO WOOLLEY
This month sees the launch of the ultimate book of breakfasts by Hugo
Woolley, simply entitled ‘Breakfast’.
Hugo, a chef and restaurateur by experience, lives with his wife Pippa at
the award winning bed and breakfast guesthouse, Woodlands Country House,
near Padstow in Cornwall. Pippa’s guesthouse has an unsurpassed reputation
for its diverse and delicious breakfast menu.
Hugo, badly injured in a car accident some years ago, has for many years
written about his favourite subject, food! The book is a wonderful journey
through the glorious world of breakfast. The book has old and new British
recipes, International recipes, sophisticated and simple and even gives
the hung-over student ideas for lifting the day. Hugo has always
experimented with breakfast menus and wholeheartedly agrees with Somerset
Maugham who is quoted as saying “To eat well in England, you should have
breakfast three times a day”!!
When you read ‘Breakfast’ it is like having a conversation with Hugo who
is a well known and much loved character in the Padstow area. The book is
littered with his personal asides which make it a most enjoyable and
humorous read. I would suggest that you make one of the delicious drinks
recipes, put your feet up and enjoy this entertaining and amusing book.
One thing is certain, you will now be making breakfast all through the
day!

OLA ONABULE
Don’t miss the chance to experience something very special on Friday 5
May in the Wadebridge Town Hall from 8.30pm.
North Cornwall Arts bring talented singer/songwriter, Ola Onabule back to Cornwall to perform at the Wadebridge Town Hall on Friday the 5th of May at 8:30 pm.
Versatile and funky, Ola’s four-octave voice can have an audience up on
its feet and grooving in no time at all. His song writing is rich in
melody, set to complex yet infectious rhythms and tinged with the
influence of his African roots. His lyrics are incisive and true and
tackle subject matter as diverse as socio-political commentary to
heartbreak. On stage Ola reveals effortless charisma and sex appeal and
his band regularly feature some of the finest musicians in the country.
Having painstakingly built himself a reputation in Britain, Ola’s music
has been licensed for inclusion on several compilation albums in several
countries and he has guested with artistes such as Natalie Cole, Gladys
Knight and Diane Reeves. In 2003 he was commissioned to write an aria for
the Royal Opera House that was performed by opera rising star, tenor Hugh
Francis.
Last time Ola Onabule played in Cornwall, he totally captivated the
audience with what must be one of the finest soul voices around.

Facts about Fish.
52% of fish stocks are fully exploited, which means that they are
being fished at their maximum biological capacity. 24% are over exploited,
depleted or recovering from depletion. 21% are moderately exploited.
Only 3% of the world's fish stocks are underexploited.
Human consumption of fish increased to 100.7 million tonnes in 2002, up
from 93.6 million tonnes in 1998.
The diets of 2.6 billion people depend on fish as a source of animal
protein.
200 million people world-wide earn all or part of their income thanks to
fishing and related activities.
The global fish catch for 2000 was valued at US$81 billion, and the
international fish trade was worth US$55 billion.
Over the last thirty years, demand for seafood products has doubled and is
anticipated to grow at 1.5 percent per year through 2020.
Seafood is a billion-pound industry with four out of five households in
Great Britain consuming seafood at least once a month.
In 2005, consumers in Great Britain bought 408,000 tonnes of fresh, frozen
and canned seafood at retail outlets (worth over £2.2 billion),
representing a volume increase of 2% and a value increase of 5% on 2004.
The overall UK seafood market, including restaurants, fish and chip shops
etc. was worth £5.2 billion in 2004, and is steadily growing.
The UK is becoming increasingly reliant on imports. Import volumes have
increased by 39% from 1995 to 2004.
Around £1.47 billion worth of seafood was imported in 2004 and the UK
exported around £881 million in seafood products mainly to Continental
Europe.
There are around 280 ports, harbours and creeks around the UK where fish
is landed. The major fishing ports in the UK in terms of value of fish
landed are, Peterhead, Lochinver and Fraserburgh.
There are around 500 seafood processing companies in the UK employing
around 22,000 people.
There are over 11,500 fish and chip shops all over the UK. These shops
sell 250 million portions of fish and chips each year.
While most fish landed in the UK is landed into Scottish ports, England
and Wales is by far the main market. In 2004, England and Wales accounted
for 93% of household fish consumption while 65% of fish landed was in
Scotland.
The most popular species of seafood in retail is cod – in 2005 consumers
spent over £365 million on it. Salmon, haddock and prawns have also seen
strong sales in the latest year.
Cod still accounts for 22% of total GB consumption and haddock for 14%.
Most of our shellfish is transported to continental markets, and prawns
now account for 11% of GB consumption.
10 species account for 75% of all the seafood sold in the UK.

Here's a recipe for a real Cornish fish supper.
Pilchard and Leek Pie.
Ingredients.
4 salted pilchards
4 or 5 large leeks 1 cup fresh single cream
Shortcrust pastry
Beaten egg (for glazing)
salt and pepper to taste
Method:
Remove the outer leaves from the leeks then wash and cut into equal
lengths of about 1.5 inches. The leeks should be scalded in boiling water
for two minutes then removed and allowed to drain. When dry lay the leeks
along the bottom of a pie dish which has already been lined on the bottom
and sides with pastry. Four salted pilchards, previously soaked in salt
water for 24 hours, should be washed and placed along side the leeks. The
pastry cover should be loosely applied and glazed and the pie baked in a
moderate oven at 300 to 325 degrees F (130 to 160 degrees C) for fifty
minutes. When cooked remove the top crust and drain off the gravy
replacing it with the cup of heated cream.

How much do websites cost to run.
Annual Hosting.
Are you paying through the nose for your hosting. Well that depends on what you are actually getting for your money. But
recently we have been made aware that confusion reigns for a lot of
people. The charges being levied by some unscrupulous service providers
and website hosting agents are exorbitant. A local merchant recently
approached us when presented with a huge hosting renewal fee from his web
designer, he was able to save hundreds of pounds after consulting with us,
and after reviewing the cases of several other website owners, we where
able to save all of them a considerable annual amount.
Domain Name Registration.
Domains are generally renewed on a two yearly cycle. Although domains can
be secured for up to ten years at a time. Domains are renewed regularly so has to
keep the vast databases free of old clutter and it enables domains that have been discontinued to be removed and resold. It is
wise to keep a note of your domain renewal date and check that your domain
is renewed promptly. Don't assume your website designer
or your registration agent will automatically do it for you. Keep an eye
on it. Some domain names are not actually registered to the owners, to
check your domains registered information visit
Whois
for domains ending in any of the following: .aero, .arpa, .biz, .com,
.coop, .edu, .info, .int, .museum, .net, .org, and .travel or visit

Search engine submission.
You can add your website to Google for absolutely nothing. It takes a
couple of minutes and is totally free. Just visit
http://www.google.com/addurl and see for yourself how simple it is.
Yahoo and MSN have similar facilities.
Website Links.
Links are like votes. Links that point from one site to another, without a reciprocal link in return, are the strongest links. Reciprocal links tend to cancel each other out, has they are seen has votes for each other. Three way links achieve the same weight has one way links.

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving
each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the
next
day he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 am for an early morning
business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence
(and LOSE),
he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 am" and left it
where he knew she would find it.
The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.
Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed.
The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up."."
